The Mobility Action Programme (MAP) is a Ministry of Health funded Pilot Program aimed at those people aged 40-70 years with early to moderate arthritis in their hip, knee or lower back. This program will provide you with education to understand how to manage your condition, how to return to activities you enjoy, how to return function and fun into your day! There are education sessions on pain management, pacing and return to activity, and nutrition and all the goodies that you can fuel your body with to increase its function. Plus 12 weeks of twice a week, progressive functional movement classes – one on the land and one in the pool. Each class will take you through functional everyday movements to enable you to maintain or return to independence, while progressing your fitness and zest for life!
Your GP or health professional can refer you to Body In Motion’s, ‘Mobility Action Program’ (MAP ). Once this referral is received and reviewed, one of our team will contact you to discuss your situation, and will book you in with the physio closest to your home for an initial assessment. Then a letter will be sent to you with dates and times for your group, we have a new group of maximum 15 starting each month.
Over the 12 weeks you will work together with the group and learn how individually your body works and what it needs/wants to work even better.
If you are 40-70 years of age, have arthritis of any kind in you hip/knee or lower back and would like to learn how to manage this condition to allow you to live the life you want – please ask your GP/Health Professional for a referral.
